Using "The One Hour Painting” Approach
Learn how to create more expressive paintings by balancing close observation with invention. By breaking the subject down into big simple shapes and letting go of the details, we will explore ways to become more intuitive and spontaneous, while emphasizing color harmony, and strong composition. Through a series of quick exercises, demos, and critiques, we will discover how to create more expressive paintings as opposed to merely copying what is in front of you. Students will work from simple still life set-ups and photographs, using a limited palette, large brushes and palette knives.
Oils are encouraged, however acrylics will work.
Blog post from a student:
"Amazing workshop with Nancy Colella at the Cape Cod Art Association!
I tend to fuss and focus on details in my paintings. This class was geared to encourage spontaneity, train the eye to look at big shapes and shadows for dynamic paintings from photos. My best work of the weekend was painted upside down looking at an upside down photo -all done in less than and hour! I was invigorated after taking this 2 day workshop. Very excited to let loose using pastels in my landscapes! "
